Steel and Megmeister Take on Prudential Ride London

Rising early on the 28th of July, ex Olympic cyclist Bryan Steel took on the Prudential Ride London on behalf of SportsAid (a charity that helps support young and upcoming athletes).

Bryan was taking on the 100 mile challenge as a part of a team of ex athletes ranging from a variety of professional sporting backgrounds. Fully kitted out with our Megmeister baselayers, the day’s cycling provided the perfect opportunity to test the limits of our baselayer technology, as the heavens opened within 30 minutes of the start.
 
Despite the challenging weather conditions, Bryan’s ride was a great success as he finished with an impressive time of 4 hours and 10 minutes. His account of his ride is as follows:
 
“I started in the second wave of riders leaving at 6.00am but within 30 mins of leaving the heavens opened. Once into Richmond park many of the roads were flooded, which added an extra element of caution. The roads were slippery so I decided to stay safe at the front of the pack.
 
“Once we got out into the Surrey hills our original group of 250 was down to 50, with the pace consistently increasing the further out we went. Following the biggest hill of the day, Leigh Hill, the pace was getting a little too hot so I dropped back to a second group who were riding a lot safer.
 
“The group worked together for the remainder of the journey with only some riders dropping off but most of us staying together until the last 10KM where the pace really began to pick up again.
 
“Overall, it was a good ride and despite the adverse weather conditions I was pleased with my time. Hopefully, I can take on the challenge next year with better weather conditions.”
 
Commenting on his experience with Megmeister baselayers during his  ride, Bryan commented, “The undervest did its job very well, keeping me cool early on but also making sure the cold water was kept away from my skin when the weather took a turn later on in the ride.”
