Megmeister Ambassador Competes in Tour de Yorkshire

Megmeister cycle ambassador, Nicola Juniper, was in action over the May Bank Holiday weekend at the ASDA Tour De Yorkshire competing in the women’s race as part of the Great Britain team. Nicola is no stranger to the race having previously notched up her best ever women’s tour finish in 2016 when she came 8th and a respectable 18th in GC last year, finishing up the iconic Cow and Calf in Ilkley.

This year saw Nikki and her team battling through hail storms, torrential rain, 45mph winds coming from all directions, freezing temperatures  and even waves on the seafront finish at Scarborough! These were so high it forced the race organisers to bring the finishing line 300m forward. And all that’s in addition to the extremely challenging terrain that comes as part and parcel of this high profile event.

Of the event Nikki says, “As a team it’s always good to be attacking and have a presence in the race. We went into this years TDY with a young but talented team and were able to deliver everyone to the finish line safely with a top 20 after a hectic finish and into stage two which was always going to be a challenging day in the saddle. Plans change and decisions are made on the road, this enabled us to deliver a rider to the final climb on stage two who went on to finish in the front split in what was a world class field!"

Nikki was definitely glad she was wearing her trusty Megmeister baselayer throughout the race – with its high tech textile technologies keeping her body to optimum temperature throughout the ride whilst also wicking away excess sweat.
Nikki has already had a busy start to 2019 participating in races in Spain (the Vuelta a la Comunitat Valencia Feminas and Setmana Ciclista Valenciana), and in Belgium (the Spar-Omloop van het Hageland–Tielt-Winge and Le Samyn des Dames).

Of her choice of kit, Nikki who is originally from Essex but now lives in Great Malvern, says “My Megmeister baselayer is the one MUST HAVE that is always in my kit bag, its soft texture, fast wicking and seamless material makes it essential part of my race kit. I’m really happy  to be associated with this brand after being introduced to the baselayers by my local cycle shop and sponsors Echelon cycles in Pershore, I look forward to trying out future products.”
